Protect your skin from sun damage

When you are outdoors or on the beach enjoying yourself
it is imperative for you to know the long term risk factors associated with excessive sun exposure on your skin. Skin cancer is usually caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun. These ultraviolet rays are responsible for the DNA damage resulting in skin cancer.
Do you know skin cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers in the United States? It is one of the most common diagnosed malignancies, and about one out of every three new cancers arises from the skin.

Seven tips for a glowing skin in scorching summer heat!

Good clothes are important as they make us look good but something more important then that is a good skin. Cosmetic Aesthetic Expert Dr. Cheryl Perlis has penned down seven tips that can make your skin the next best thing to wear. I am sure you have got my point, so, check these out.
1. Exfoliate your skin regularly so that your dry, flaky skin is no longer there. A good exfoliate will be the one which will contain Retin A, Renova or Retinols. Apart from using home remedies as defoliators, one should also go for professional peels once in a month.
2. Revitalize your skin with some good gels like Collagen and Elastin Gel by Clayton Shagal & Witch Hazel, which helps in replenishing and rejuvenating your skin. It also relieves your skin from sunburns. Other methods include a treatment with the Laser Genesis or a photo facial.
3. Make sure that you moisturize not only your face but your body to as it prevents wrinkles and helps in keeping your skin smooth which is an extra advantage. Also remember that creams replenish more deeply then lotions. Ponds cold cream is one of the best products.
4. De-Wrinkling your skin is another effective method that brings back life to your skin. Dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm helps adding volume, where Botox does the same too. Vaseline is one thing that can make you do away with Botox and likes.
5. Lips are an important part of our face and believe me, they can also look bad if not taken care of properly. Use good quality lip balms every now and then. A good lip balm will consist of Vitamin E and wax.
6. Hydration of your body is very important. Make sure you drink a lot of water, which actually accounts for half the weight you have.
7. Vitamins are important for a healthy skin. A glowing skin can only be assured with the intake of multivitamins.

Breast milk is best for your infant, study assures

One has always known the goodness of mother’s milk.
Now a recent article published in the current issue of the advances in Pediatrics, surveys both the risks and the benefits associated with breast feeding.Compared to most developed countries, US has a lower rate of introduction and continuation of breast feeding among lactating mothers. Social factors like inadequate maternity leave and misunderstanding of benefits versus risks are responsible for encouraging mothers to opt for infant formula milk.
David K. Rassin, co-author of the paper said,
although many of us assume that everyone knows breastfeeding is best for infants and the American Academy of Pediatrics has come out with really strong recommendations in favor of it, the prevalence of breastfeeding in the United States is only about 65 percent right now. One of the points we tried to make in this article is that even in this country there are definitely some health risks associated with formula feeding — they just tend to involve diseases that take a long time to emerge but may reflect lack of breastfeeding. In fact, breast fed babies are less prone to infections than those who are fed on formula milk, because, mother’s milk also contains valuable antibodies, which helps the baby to fight and resist infections.
Do breastfeed your baby, if you are a lactating mother, because not only is it wholesome and nutritious, it is a great way to emotionally bond with your little bundle-of-joy.

Russian woman gives birth to a huge baby girl weighing 17 pounds

Russian Tatiana Khalina has made her town Aleisk in the Altai region in southern Siberia proud as she set a record by delivering her 12th baby that weighed 17.05 pounds (7.75 kgs) at birth. The newborn is more than the twice as an average newborn. According to World Health Organisation statistics a healthy newborn’s weight is around 3.2 kgs (7.04) pounds.
The baby girl, Nadia was delivered by Cesarean section on September 17, 2007 in Aleisk’s maternity clinic. The new born baby’s weight happens to be the biggest on the nation’s record till date. Despite such a heavy weight the childbirth was pretty normal and both the mother and baby are said to be fine. But not to take any chances the duo was later shifted to a maternity hospital in Barnaul to provide them with better aid. The Guinness World Records mentions the healthiest baby boy of 10.2 kg (22.8-pound) born in Italy in 1955. United States too has a record in Guinness World Records of a baby boy weighing 23.12 pounds at birth in 1879, but sadly he passed away just 11 hours after the birth.
Russia’s population density is just 9 persons per square kilometer (22 per sq. mi.). Such less population makes it the most scantily populated countries in the world.

Be careful with emergency contraception

f you frequently reach out for the morning-after-pill after a passionate, wild night with your partner, be careful when you do so. You may be harming you chances of having a successful pregnancy in the future. What is emergency contraception? It is the contraceptive method, which if taken after having sex, may avoid pregnancy. Some of the measures include Levonelle, the morning-after-pill and intrauterine devices.
Daniel and I only see each other at weekends so our sex life is highly charged, and I’m not going to abstain just because I’ve forgotten to take a couple of pills. People will say that we could use condoms, but we feel they desensitized sex and make it less intimate, so we’d rather not bother with them and, to be honest, we’re often too drunk to have a conversation about contraception in the throes of passion anyway.Well, ladies enjoy yourself in bed, but, every time you do so, don’t reach out for the morning-after-pill the next day, because apart from being expensive (£25 per dose), its frequent use can make your reproductive system go completely haywire.

Cholesterol linked to premature birth! Study

According to doctors and researchers, a recent research proves that low cholesterol is linked with a low birth weight. The right amount of cholesterol is very crucial to giving birth to a healthy newborn — at least this is what the scientists at the National Human Genome Research Institute believe. The National Institute of Health also collaborated in this study. The Research:
This study was published in the October issue of the Pediatrics. About 1000 women from North Carolina and their babies were subjects of the research. All of these ladies were aged between 21 and 34 years. Discovery:
Premature birth also results in blindness, deafness, and learning difficulties. However, there were no difference in the rate of birth defects.
The research also found that underweight females gave birth prematurely. So there is a clear connection between cholesterol levels and the weight of the baby.
Conclusion:
Now that we have found the causes behind premature birth, I think we will have a better idea of how to take better care of the cholesterol.
I hope moms will pay more attention to their health, which will further improve the health of the unborn babies. Along with this, few other aspects are also being investigated even as I write this article.

Does the Indian Doc have secret to destroy HIV?

Everything, if goes fine, may be, then researchers would be too near destroying HIV/AIDS, as Dr Indrani Sarkar’s PhD thesis provides key to open up the secret for developing enzymes that can destroy the dreaded Human Immuno-deficiency Virus or HIV within infected cells permanently.
Enzyme called Tre is capable of detecting, recognizing and destroying HIV. Moreover, the detection of this enzyme (Tre) could be counted as a major achievement in our fight against HIV/AIDS. Today, major obstacle that we face while battling HIV/AIDS is its (HIV virus) resistance against HIV drugs. However, Tre promises to deplete HIV in the human genome just in three months, giving too short period for this virus to develop resistance. In the words of Indrani Sarkar:
In laymans terms, it’s an engineered enzyme…cuts out the virus from the genome.
Finally, hope is there to have another major weapon our arsenal to fight HIV/AIDS!

Asthma doesn’t increase pregnancy risks as previously believed

It you are an asthma patient, and are awaiting pregnancy, you need not worry about the links between the two. Relax, and cherish the feeling of would-be-motherhood.
A new study has come to provide that extra relaxation for you. It says that adverse obstetric or pediatric complications are generally not increased in women with asthma.
Though, previous studies have linked asthma in women with the possibility of increased pregnancy complication-risks, those have been found with various statistical shortcomings.
The authors of the study said,
Our results provide reassuring evidence that the risks of most adverse pregnancy outcomes and obstetric complications are similar to those in women without asthma.
With the possible exception of increased vigilance in monitoring certain complications in pregnant women with asthma, our findings do not indicate a necessity to alter current practice of optimal (asthma drug therapy) in women of child-bearing age in the general population.

Vitamin A derivative can cut down Rheumatoid Arthritis, Colitis risks

Vitamin A, also retinal is popularly known and used to keep skin healthy, and claims of it in beauty product is a commonplace thing.
Besides, helping to keep your system free from toxins, which otherwise cause damage to your skin, a derivative of Vitamin A — retinoic acid — is found to be capable of fighting some serious and painful diseases like autoimmune, colitis or rheumatoid arthritis. So, while improving night vision, you can well keep those inflammatory risks at bay using the same vitamin dosage. What is needed is manipulation of the amount of the retinoic acid. Though such results are seen only in mice, the effects of it are yet to be seen in humans.
