Moms cradling baby on their right arms suffer depression risk: Study

Depression during pregnancy as well as child rearing days are worrying scientists for years, as such mental phases in moms effect their children in a big and serious way.Never mind, what is more important is the inception of such a mood. And, importantly, scientists have successfully discovered one such tool – a mom’s specific body language, i.e. the way a mother holds her baby reveals the secrets of her mental health!

In the past, scientists have found only that most parents cradle children on their left-hand side irrespective of their being right or left-handed. But, it is only recently, the finding linked a woman’s risk of depression with it.

Stating the findings’ better help in identifying mothers in a fragile mental state, lead researcher Dr Nadja Reissland, a senior lecturer in psychiatry at Durham University said,

We have all seen pictures of Princess Diana - she always cradled to the right. However it is a tendency - not an absolute and just because a woman cradles on the right it does not mean she is stressed.

This finding is significant to save many mothers from depression, who wither don’t realize they are suffering from stress or don’t want to admit they are.

Minocycline may rule out stroke-related disabilities

Stroke may occur at any time and most of the time it goes undetected around the time within which something could have been done. The patients who suffered a stroke always showed disabilities in speech and movement of limbs and other parts, facial palsy, and lowered vision.
Present medical facilities show that treatment applied within three hours of the attack helps patients to bounce back to normalcy. As stroke is mostly unidentified in the initial stage and by the time the patient reaches the hospital it is usually too late. Placebo is commonly offered to such patients, but it is found recently that minocycline performs better than placebo and if applied within six to twenty-four hrs from the time of attack showed little or no signs of disability.
Besides, minocycline has showed no side effects in the patients. Minocycline is found to be effective because it is able is protect the brain cells from destruction. The scientists are yet to find the right dose for the patients.

Eat plenty of fish and seafoods during your pregnancy

A recent study claims that pregnant women and breastfeeding mums should consume at least twelve ounces of fish in a week to get omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish & seafood’s should be consumed during pregnancy because it is very important and required by the body like we need minerals and vitamins for normal body growth.
Ashley Roman, a medicine obstetrician, mentioned in a statement that they are coming forward to clear all these existing rum-ours associated with the consumption of fish and seafood. He also mentioned that now there are enough proofs which stand in support of this statement that – by eating fish or seafood you move ahead and progress to get good results through out your pregnancy period and even after this.
One important thing about the seafood’s is — it is generally believed that they make the brain sharp & that why known as brain food. These foods are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which is very essential for brain development. A recent research that took place this year discovered that pregnant females who consumed more and more seafood’s had kids who had highly developed brain with high IQ levels. Consumption of seafood’s during pregnancy is quite nutritional.
The researchers conclude that advantages of consuming fish now sidelines the harms caused by the mercury.

Obesity and Asthma Severity: Could There be a Link?

If you are plagued with severe, prolonged bouts of asthma then maybe you should blame it on your weight. An analysis conducted by a team at Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Atlanta showed that the asthma patients who were obese were more likely to show prolonged symptoms of asthma as compared to asthma patients who were non-overweight.
“Our analysis showed that out of more than 3,000 patients with asthma, obese patients were 66 percent more likely to report continuous symptoms, 36 percent more likely to miss more days of work and 52 percent more likely to be classified as having either moderate or severe persistent asthma when compared to non-overweight people.”A possible reason as to why obese patients are more affected by asthma could be attributed to the hormone leptin produced by adipocytes. According to previous studies, this hormone may be responsible for airway inflammation as seen in asthma cases. In addition, reduced physical activity owing to asthma may be a cause for weight gain in asthma patients. However, research that is more detailed needs to be conducted to establish precisely how obesity and asthma severity are linked. But in the mean time addressing the obesity problem will not only benefit in reducing the severity of asthma but also in keeping other lifestyle related diseases in check.

Bed-Cum-Bookcase! It's cool

n tiny apartments most of the space is taken over by bulky beds, we cannot do without. However, here is a wonderful solution, in the shape of a jigsaw-puzzle bed, which transforms into a bookcase when not in use.
Work of designer Karen Babel, the bed comes in the shape of a mattress that stands straight in four pieces to form the bookcase.
The mattress fits into the wall-mounted frame, containing five shelves. When you retire to bed, all you have to do is place the sections of the mattress on the floor and fix them in, to form your funky bed.
You need to slot in two parts to make a single bed, whereas all four, in case you require a double one! My only concern is how it will feel to lie on a bed with a somewhat uneven surface.
Meanwhile, what comes as a treat is the color the bed adds to the otherwise plain wall!

Make-up: Making you drop dead gorgeous or dropping you dead?

The best thing is to look natural, but it takes makeup to look natural!
We women love to look perfect all the time and why not? When nature gives us flaws, smart women like us go a step further ahead to beat nature at its own game by covering all those flaws with makeup. These amazing beauty treats not only hide our imperfections but also transform us to ordinary next door girls to glamorous women. The lip glosses are flavored with yummy strawberries and peaches and you end up rolling your tongue over your lips and over a period of time, you have a dozen chemicals glossing inside your tummy as well!!
The deodorants, hairsprays, lipsticks, mascaras all come loaded with chemicals, more particularly parabens which act as preservatives to extend the shelf life of the cosmetics. Imagine the deadly ‘cocktail of chemicals’ that you are feeding your tummy unknowingly. Sounds scary, isn’t it?
Of course, women can’t do without makeup and can’t expect them to stop using it; dump those deadly jars and try organic and natural cosmetics that are a lot of companies offer.
The quote now changes to “The best thing is to look natural, but it takes natural makeup to look natural”

Long drives may lead to skin cancer

Long drives may put you in the lane that leads to skin cancer. Yes, this is true. Actually, once again it has been found that left body part of those who go for long drives is more susceptible to skin cancer, for this part of the body is comparatively more exposed to scorching sun rays during long drives.
Here word ‘once again’ has been used intentionally because previous studies have also proved that left body part of those who drives on long routes is more susceptible to skin cancer due to more exposure to UV rays of the Sun.
Interestingly, our skin becomes more susceptible to skin cancer not only while we drive on long routes but also when we get exposed to UV rays through other ways. For instance, marathon running has also been linked to skin cancer, for during long hours of running our skin is quite liberally get exposed to skin cancer, increasing the susceptibility to skin cancer.

Pure gold can also be allergic

Glittering gold that you often use to add to your beauty may add to your problems too because according to the latest findings by researchers, pure gold can produce allergy symptoms in some people. It is worth mentioning that this finding stands head to head to the previous beliefs, which have dubbed pure gold as a non-allergic substance.
There is a common notion that skin allergy, which usually erupts after wearing gold jewellery is due to alloys like nickel or chromium. However, after carrying out survey of 30 dermatological clinics and hospitals throughout Germany Thomas Fuchs and Johannes Geier of Goettingen University Hospital in Germany came to the conclusion that pure gold can also bring out its allergic properties on some people.
On the basis of this study it can definitely be asserted that pure gold can also be an allergic metal. In the words of Thomas Fuchs:
These are indeed isolated cases… But they are enough to prove conclusively that there is such a thing as an allergy to gold.

Dieting kills weight...and bones too!

No doubt, dieting may help you in losing your extra flab but it lead to bone loss as well; a new study by the researchers at Washington University has opened out this fact.
Researchers tracked three groups of the people to gather these results. First group followed a calorie-restricted eating pattern; the second group went on with same calorie diet but started regular exercise and the third group didn’t bring any variation in their lifestyle and the results, which peeped out after this year long study, found that people on calorie-restricted diet no doubt lost their weight but lost their bone density as well and that too at an alarming rate. On the other hand, not much loss of bone density was noticed in other two groups, which clears the fact that dieting not only loose your body fat but your bone density as well.
Actually, the right way to weight loss is doing exercise along with balanced diet and starving oneself might have negative implications on your body. It is quite confusing that why people forget that food is like a fuel for our body and for wants of it our body starts crumbling down. In the recent years dieting has emerged as a vogue, but always mind that it is such a rogue that turns your body hollow slowly but steadily.
